S2p is subset of ZPPNP

چکیده
We show that the class Sp2 is contained in ZPP NP. The proof uses universal hashing, approximate counting and witness sampling. As a consequence, a collapse first noticed by Samik Sengupta that the assumption NP has small circuits collapses PH to Sp2 becomes the strongest version to date of the Karp–Lipton Theorem. We also discuss the problem of finding irrefutable proofs for Sp2 in ZPPNP. © 2006 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Site-2 protease responds to oxidative stress and regulates oxidative injury in mammalian cells
Site-2 protease (S2P) is a membrane-embedded protease that site-specifically cleaves intramembrane transcription factors, a necessary step for their maturation. S2P is well known to regulate cholesterol biosynthesis and endoplasmic reticulum stress in mammalian cells. In this study, we hypothesized that S2P could be responsible for the regulation of cellular oxidative injury under oxidative str...
متن کاملFree Actions of Finite Groups on S × S
Let p be an odd prime. We construct a non-abelian extension Γ of S1 by Z/p × Z/p, and prove that any finite subgroup of Γ acts freely and smoothly on S2p−1 × S2p−1. In particular, for each odd prime p we obtain free smooth actions of infinitely many non-metacyclic rank two p-groups on S2p−1 × S2p−1. These results arise from a general approach to the existence problem for finite group actions on...
متن کاملComplementation cloning of S2P, a gene encoding a putative metalloprotease required for intramembrane cleavage of SREBPs.
We report the cloning of a gene, S2P, that encodes a putative metalloprotease required for intramembrane proteolysis of sterol-regulatory element-binding proteins (SREBPs) at Site-2. SREBPs are membrane-bound transcription factors that activate genes regulating cholesterol metabolism. The active NH2-terminal domains of SREBPs are released from membranes by sequential cleavage at two sites: Site...
متن کاملER stress induces cleavage of membrane-bound ATF6 by the same proteases that process SREBPs.
ATF6 is a membrane-bound transcription factor that activates genes in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress response. When unfolded proteins accumulate in the ER, ATF6 is cleaved to release its cytoplasmic domain, which enters the nucleus. Here, we show that ATF6 is processed by Site-1 protease (S1P) and Site-2 protease (S2P), the enzymes that process SREBPs in response to cholesterol deprivati...
متن کاملSite-2 protease regulated intramembrane proteolysis: sequence homologs suggest an ancient signaling cascade.
Site-2 proteases (S2Ps) form a large family of membrane-embedded metalloproteases that participate in cellular signaling pathways through sequential cleavage of membrane-tethered substrates. Using sequence similarity searches, we extend the S2P family to include remote homologs that help define a conserved structural core consisting of three predicted transmembrane helices with traditional meta...
